Together with VRIAN projects BV and van Hall Larenstein Life Sciences, Foodprof.eu took part in a NUFFIC project targeting enhancement of the strengthening of the capacity of Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA) in respect to formulation of policy and the effective enforcement of the GMO / biosafety law in Bhutan.
The program aimed on the wider international policy concerning the safe use the biotechnology, guarantee food safety and properly organise related institutions in commerce, science, education and inspection.
The Bhutan National Biosafety Act was approved half 2013, after which date formal enforcement started. The BAFRA team will be able to communicate the wider aims of this legislation to both private and public sector resulting in wider awareness of the biosafety risks.
Bhutan is a relative small Kingdom in the Himalayas, in between China, India, Nepal and Bangla Desh.
Foodprof.eu, together with other trainers introduced practical control methods (good practices) that are common practice in the EU on controlling Novel foods, GMO products and ingredients and food hygiene.
Furthermore there were lectures on riskbased thinking and proper acting in the foodchain to enhance foodsafety.
The participants from Bhutan will visited the Netherlands in the firts 2 weeks of July 2013.
